Your makeup on your wedding day is so important. This is the one day your makeup has to be FLAWLESS, just like you. The photos are going to last a lifetime and you don’t want to look back and regret not having the right makeup. So, PLEASE don’t have your mom’s sister’s friend that is decent at makeup do it. Do your research, find the right person that will give you EXACTLY what you want. Not sure where to start? I got you.
Now, if you already know exactly what you want, that’s great! You should go with what makes you feel the most confident and most beautiful. BUT, for the girls that don’t know what makeup look is best for them, I’m here to help.
In this article, I’ve curated a few looks that will make ANY woman feel beautiful and bring her unique features to life. Start following the MUA’s below and save their posts for great inspiration.
NATURAL. Makeup artists loath this word. If you want to look natural, don’t wear makeup, that’s natural. “Natural” is waking up in the morning with last nights pimple cream still dried to your face. Not the look we’re going for here. Plus, you’re paying a makeup artist, let them work their magic.
Should I do a makeup trial before the wedding?
YES!!!
A million times yes. After my first trial with Hailey, I knew I wanted her to do my makeup for my wedding. But, there were some tweaks I wanted to make to my look. So we did a second trial, brightened up the eyes, used more pinks and nudes, added more sparkle. It was perfect. So yes, schedule a trial to make sure your look is perfect. Sometimes it takes more than one and that’s ok.
How did I find my MUA?
THE GRAM
Yep, I took to Instagram. I searched different hashtags; #weddingmakeupla #lamua #lamakeupartist etc. I don’t remember exactly which hashtag led me to Hailey, but after reviewing her work I immediately contacted her to ask her rates and set up a trial. The rest is history.
You can also check out the wedding websites ( the knot, weddingwire, stylemepretty, greenweddingshoes, etc.) to search makeup artists in your area. But instagram is the best portfolio. If they don’t have a solid IG with photos or videos of their work, don’t trust em’. 😉
But do I need fake lashes?
YES. The answer is YES & it will always be YES. Thank me later.
Celebrity & Bridal Makeup Artist, Hailey Hoff, Answers Your Questions
How should a bride describe the makeup look she wants? And what should she not say when describing her bridal makeup look?
H – When describing what you want for your wedding, be specific. Have photos as references and say what you like about that look. Also be realistic…Don’t show a photoshopped, smoothed over photo of perfect makeup and have that be the expectation, cause it won’t be.
How do you make bridal makeup last all day?
H – To be completely honest… it’s hard to make a look last perfectly all day. My expert advice would be to spend that extra $200 and have your artist stay until after your ceremony. Especially if you’re a crier and or its 90 degrees out.
Advice for the girls that want a “natural glow”?
H – Tell your artist you want an upscale natural look where it will still looks picture perfect, but also not too overdone in photos. The number one request I have after doing a trial for a natural bride is that she wants to take it up a notch at the wedding day. If it’s too natural, it won’t look as flawless in your photos.
Thoughts on airbrush foundation?
H – I personally don’t do airbrush makeup because I think my foundation concoction has a more beautiful look.
Should brides bring their own lashes/lipstick or use whatever their MUA has?
H – If you’re hiring a reputable makeup artist, they should have lashes for you. Unless you are that person that has to wear that one lash from MAC, bring your own.
Can you use a glowy finish foundation if you have oily skin
H – For a wedding, if you tend to be more oily, I would say no. Instead have the artist glow you with a powder highlight.

BRING INSPO
Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube. I don’t care. Have something visually ready to show your MUA.
DO A TRIAL SESSION
Trials are very common. Don’t be afraid to ask for a trial before the wedding. And do NOT be afraid to say if you don’t like something. Sometimes it takes a couple trials to get it just right.
TAKE PHOTOS
After the trial, take lots of pictures of yourself or have someone take some for you. Make sure you’re in good lighting, and turn on the flash. Gotta make sure that skin is glowin’.
