My skin FLARED up with breakouts the month leading up to my wedding. True story. And I’m not talking little hormonal breakouts that go away in a couple days. I’m talking red, painful, breakouts that linger even once they’re gone.
This article outlines exactly what I did to help clear my skin before my wedding. And hey, it worked.
Diet
Sorry guys, the saying “you are what you eat” rings true here. If you eat all the processed carbs, sugars, pastas, soda, etc., you’re going to see it on your face. And I don’t just mean in the form of breakouts. Sugar and salt are major contributors to bloating. If you want your skin to glow and your cheekbones to be poppin’, cut the crap. My diet year round is usually free of this bad stuff, but leading up to my wedding day (probably 1-2 months out) I REALLY went hard. I switched from coffee to green tea (EVERY morning), gave up bread (yep, no avocado toast), no pastas or desserts of any kind. My sweets were fruits, like honeydew, strawberries, & blueberries. Here’s quick breakdown of meals I ate interchangeably.
Breakfast
- Almond milk yogurt w/ blueberries & honey + green tea
- Or…Raw steel cut oats (boiled in water) w/ berries & honey + green tea
- Or….Green juice (freshly juiced in juicer)- celery, berries, ginger, frozen spinach , flaxseed, chai seeds, almond milk, water + side of berries.
Lunch
- Salad- spinach, spring mix, tomato, cucumber, purple onion, cranberries, garbanzo beans, mushrooms, avocado, pepperoncinis, cilantro, cooked quinoa, olive oil.
Dinner
- Grilled veggies- green zucchini, yellow squash, onion, garbanzo beans, sometimes tofu + avocado on brown rice or quinoa.
- Or…Same salad as above.
Water
Shocker. Everyone knows water is the not-so-secret trick to clear skin and weight loss. I’m here to say, it’s true. The only things I drank leading up to my wedding day were green tea and water. And LOTS of it. Start with hot green tea every morning ( I like peppermint) and drink a gallon (or close to) of water a day. I used a gallon water jug from amazon. Trust me on this one.
Stress
I took photos (sorry, I deleted them immediately) and made appointments with THREE dermatologists for emergency help. All I could think was, this cannot NOT be happening to ME. Well, it was. Can you guess what every SINGLE doctor said? Yep. Stress. I was like, “are you kidding me?!” Where is the magic pill that will clear my skin, just for 1 day! That’s all I ask! Their advice was to take a bath and chill the eff out. So, I did. As hard as it was, I did my best to destress and I do believe it helped.
Peels
#notsponsored. I love Dr. Dennis Gross Peel Pads. I still use them once a week to keep the dead skin from piling up and clogging my pores. I loved using this leading up to my wedding day. Start testing the peel pads at least 3 months out to see how your skin reacts to the formula. There is a sensitive skin formula also thats works great too. I usually purchase mine from Sephora.
